GIFTUN ISLAND

The Island of Giftun
is located 3 miles away from Hurghada. SU8GFTN will be
active from Giftun Island
(Red Sea Coast North Group, AF-NEW) for
about four days and for at least 18 hours a day during the last week of September.
Team plans to operate SSB and CW mostly on 20 and 40
metres, with two 100-watts stations, a beam and two verticals.

01.01.06 - " diary of board "
- 25 September we arrived in Egypt in the afternoon
- 26 September we spent one day speaking with military to receive the Ok
- 27 September we went to the island arriving at 7:00z on the island
after 1,30 hour of boat trip to the island. At 7:26z first spot on the
cluster and closed at 14:00z "last spot on the cluster", The last
navy boat left the island at 17:00 local time (15:00z).
- 28 September was to be the second day for the activity, but I8LWL did
not have docuemnt and we went to the Embassy in Cairo since not having passports in
Egypt is very dangerous.
- 29 September we returned to Hurgada city
- 30 September the team could not go again to the island because our hosts, SU1ER
and SU1KA needed to fly from Cairo in the morning but this was not possible, so we could
not return to the island. ..This expedition was very expensive for the Italian team
and paid for all flights, transportation and other expenses including paying for SU1ER and
SU1KA who were guests of the Italian team in the hotel...
- 1 October we returned to ITALY
01.10.05 - The SU8GFTN expedition
to Giftun Island (AF-NEW) went QRT after 500 QSOs with
5 (EU-SA-OC-AF-AS) cont in few hours. More info
tomorrow Sunday 2, when the team
go back in Italy.

26.09.05 - Good news from Egypt, in the last call via telephone with Ant
IZ8CCW says
that all is OK now, all radio equipment were recovered from the airport
customs.Will be on the air tomorrow Tuesday 27.
