DX Commander Signature 12.4 – A Simple Modification for Easier Field Maintenance, This weekend, Simone (IU4HRJ), Andrea (IW3SSD), and Paco (IU3PMA) inspected our DX Commander Signature 12.4 and made a few modifications to simplify assembly and disassembly during future DXpeditions.
The main change was making small slots in the insulating plates, allowing the element wires to be inserted directly instead of threading them through every plate. This means that if a single-band element needs to be removed for maintenance, the other elements can remain in place, making the process much faster and easier.
This small modification saves valuable time in the field and reduces the risk of tangling or damaging adjacent elements during maintenance.

Finished Result: Completed modification. Each element wire can now be removed individually without dismantling the remaining elements.
Advantages
- Faster antenna assembly and disassembly.
- Individual elements can be removed for maintenance.
- No need to dismantle the remaining elements.
- Reduced risk of tangling the element wires.
- Ideal for DXpeditions where setup and maintenance time is critical.
